Introducing Otterbein's John Lintz

Listen to all four parts from this special edition OAC Distance Talk Show featuring Otterbein's newly appointed cross country coach, John Lintz. Coach Lintz covers so much in this near half-hour conversation (parts one through four). Be sure not to miss it!

We've decided to split the interview into four parts after some suggestions from our loyal viewers (thank you!) and will most likely stick with this format in the future with interviews that span much longer than the 10-minute range. None of the four parts of this interview are longer than 9 minutes (two are in the 6-minute range), so there's no need to pause and come back. Watch part one...go for a run. Watch part two...eat a bowl of your favorite cereal. Here at OAC Distance we're all about accommodating your on-the-go lifestyle.

Enjoy!

*we apologize that there were no captions used for this interview as we have been experiencing "technical difficulties"/punctuation bugs in published videos recently. we will attempt to correct the problem soon.

Otterbein XC, 2008

Chase Schneider (SR) and James Castrillo (JR) will lead a strong group of underclassmen this fall as the Cardinals look to crack the top 3 at the OAC meet. The Cardinals will miss the leadership of Jared French, but could make up for his loss with a strong group of developing runners. Last year at the conference meet, Otterbein had a stellar group of freshman. According to my calculations, Mount Union is the only team in the conference with a more talented group of returning freshman.

Scoring (Top 4 teams) when removing all runners except freshman at last year’s OAC Meet:

Mount: 50
Otterbein: 63
Berg: 90
ONU: 96

Leading Otterbein’s young group is Chris Fyock, who is the #2 returning freshman from the conference meet behind Mount's Tyler Griffin (Bowman is not returning to Mount). Fyock is coming off a track season where he ran a 9:03 indoor 3000 and a 15:50 outdoor 5k.

While Fyock could finish as high as top 15, the Cardinals will need front runners if they are to crack the top 3. If the rumored loss of Eric Green (who has shown potential to do so in the past, finishing 13th at the 2005 OAC Championships) is true, then it would certainly be a significant blow to the team, but Schneider is the #7 returning runner from last year’s conference meet and Castrillo had a decent spring, finishing 5th in the 10k at the conference meet. Other runners with scoring potential are Alex Simko (4:05 1500), Tom Brumlik (4:09.26 1500), Matt Dixon, and Michael Jacoby.

Considering their depth, it would not be surprising for a previously unknown Otterbein runner to emerge as a contender for All-OAC honors.

Tune in to James Castrillo’s cellular interview for more information on the Cardinals. Rumors have been circulating concerning a possible coaching change and Castrillo tackles that issue in the interview.

Best of luck to the Cardinals this fall.
